Why do we want to do this,
and do it as intensely, as quickly, and as best as we possibly can?

  • The current state of English-language teaching throughout most of the world is appallingly inadequate for preparing people to enter a knowledge society in which English is the standard medium. Most important scientific, educational, and informational materials are published in English. Yet most educated people, even some very intelligent ones, do not know enough of the language. As a result, they cannot make good use of the massive store of knowledge available to help develop themselves and their societies.
  • Even worse, the least privileged groups in society have little or no access to quality English-language education at all. This group could benefit greatly from knowledge of English.
  • Knowledge of English can and will help people learn about many things they would otherwise never discover. More importantly, it enables them to take advantage of global economic opportunities made available through modern information technologies to improve their and their family’s living conditions. [1] [2]
  • The amount, scope, and quality of educational resources available in English over the Internet far surpass those in any other language (see, e.g., MIT OpenCourseWare, Wikipedia, Stanford on iTunes U, and Rice University’s Connexions). [3] [4] [5] [6]

The Insight English learning system will increase the welfare of a vast number of people,
including many of the least privileged members in our global village.

  • Imagine a poor boy in Africa, armed with a $100 laptop or access to a computer in school, who learns to use English with our videos and software at no cost to himself. [7] [8] [9] His ability to use English now opens a world of information on the Internet. On Wikipedia, he learns about ways to help his family achieve better agricultural output. He learns math and science through animations and computer-aided learning software in educational Web sites, much more effectively than he could in his underfunded school. He acquires computer skills required for most high-quality jobs. Using these skills and knowledge, he has better job opportunities than would have been possible otherwise. He helps lift his family out of poverty.

Imagine how much positive impact we can make to the lives of the poor!

  • With initiatives like $100 laptops and the spread of the Internet and mobile phone services to even the most remote parts of the world, we can help lift at least 5,000,000 people out of ignorance, the ultimate cause of poverty. Their acquired knowledge will improve living conditions for their families. Neighbors will take these pioneers as role models and start to develop themselves. With such socially virtuous cycles, over 100,000,000 people could be positively affected by us, by our efforts. The ripple effects of this learning system could be as great as any other invention.

If this cannot justify why we should put our best, most intense efforts
and most of our time into this cause, what can?
